Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)

Through participation in the YAC, youth learn leadership skills, plan and carry out community service projects, and work in collaboration and coordination with the Fiscal Agent and Community Collaborative Committee CCC to identify and recommend funding of programs that are tailored to youth needs in the prevention of juvenile delinquency. The YAC serves as a meaningful partner with adults in the planning, promoting and evaluating local CYD services. The program involves its’ participants in conducting a community needs assessment, participating in CCC meetings, participation on the Review Committee, and soliciting feedback about the CYD program from youth participants. This feedback is utilized to shape the overall development of the program and ensure that services are responsive to the needs of local youth.

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was created to address the following youth leadership skills:

  • Increase students’ perceptions of competence and self-worth

  • Provide Youth Leadership Development

  • Improve participant identification with positive roles

  • Improve participant communication and refusal skills

  • Increase knowledge of and negative attitudes about substance abuse and violence

  • Increase community involvement in promoting the healthy development of youth and the valuing of adolescents

  • Assist youth in transitioning from teen to adulthood through life-skill, training
